How we research and review this site
Every page here is meant to help someone after a fire make a safe, informed decision. This page explains where the information comes from, how it is checked and how it is kept current.
Sources
Where the information on this site comes from
Facts about fire safety, smoke and indoor air, mold, lead and asbestos come from public agencies and standards bodies, including the U.S. Fire Administration, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the National Fire Protection Association and the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification. Local facts come from the City of Dallas and public references about Dallas neighborhoods. Each article lists its sources, and numbered citations point to them.
General descriptions of how restoration work is done reflect common industry practice. Where practice varies, pages say so and suggest questions to ask the contractor.

Reviews
Review dates and corrections
Pages are reviewed when sources change and at least once a year. Source links are checked automatically, and dead links are replaced with a current or archived copy of the same source. If you find an error, tell us when you call and it will be checked and corrected. Images on this site are illustrative and generated for the site; they do not show a specific contractor's work.
Independence
Independence and the referral model
The site's operator may be compensated when calls are connected to contractors. That does not change what the pages say: content is written to inform, not to push any particular service, and every page encourages you to ask questions and get the plan in writing before work starts.
